We are given the narrative that nothing should be easier or more magical than being pregnant and becoming a mom. So why am I feeling overwhelmed, touched out, overstimulated, and isolated? As much as we would love it, motherhood does not come with a manual. For a lot of women that transition can bring about thoughts and feelings they may not have expected. 1 in 5 women will experience a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder.
Maybe you are struggling with the new role of motherhood and find yourself parenting in ways you said you never would. Maybe you are overwhelmed with strong emotions such as sadness or anger and you're questioning your ability to mother. Maybe you're worried about making a mistake so you're overcome with anxiety and mom guilt.
Motherhood was not meant to be lived and experienced on your own. The specific topics we discuss in therapy are determined by you and your unique needs. Examples of common topics are postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, intrusive thoughts, breastfeeding struggles, values in motherhood, identity in motherhood, careers and motherhood, traumatic birth, mom guilt, relationships with your significant other, or relationships with your own mother.
